Donald Glover signed a partnership with Adidas Originals since September 2018. For the past seven months, there has been nothing but silence about what Glover and the company were cooking. That ended up in Coachella, when an iPhone registered in “Donald Glover” mysteriously started AirDrop an image of the Adidas Nizza shoes. Those who accepted supposedly got a couple of kicks to use at the festival, as long as they signed a contract to wear the shoes and attend the Glover set. Today, all his project with Adidas Originals is being revealed, and it is much more than sneakers.
Glover’s project is less about the product and more about the experience. It comprises five short films, which were presented at an experiential event in Los Angeles the night before (cell phones were banned), as well as three styles of sneakers. As the lone creator wrote in a press release, “With this project, I wanted to encourage people to think about how their stories can be told, value is not quantified by what you use, but by their experiences. Make the decision about what works for you, live through your own lens, for me, the partnership is to be able to exemplify how you see and feel doing what you really do. “With that in mind, the three styles of sneakers of Glover, Nizza, Continental 80 and Lacombe, are made of unbleached white canvas, with the intention of showing their wear. The five films, starring Glover and Mo’Nique, are a hammer pointing home with plots They show the couple cutting wood, apiclando and simply leaving.
Glover is far from being the first to make slippers to show his wear and spots as marks of pride. The Nike Mars Yard Shoe by Tom Sachs is made from an all-natural, non-dyed material that degrades and wears out over time. The collaboration of Maison Margiela Converse as of 2013 included sneakers covered with white paint that would flake off over time to reveal colored canvases. Even so, Glover fans and millions of fans will surely make these shoes a success. Mark your calendar for your release date, April 26.
